
CLASSICAL PHILOLOGY
History and criticism of literary texts and genres; history of the reception of ancient texts; the studies of the history and criticism of literary texts and genres (Greek and Latin, Pagan and Christian) cover various moments and genres. As concerns Greek it involves: the ancient tragedy, the philosophical tradition, Hellenistic Jewish literature, the Septuagint Bible, anthologies and collections, medical texts, historiography and Byzantine rhetoric. As regards Latin literature, it includes: Augustan poetry, oratory, historiography (Livy), the Latin poetry of Late Antiquity, the Christian authors of the first centuries up until the Latin of the modern age. Doctoral students will investigate the means of production and diffusion of the ancient text, of conservation and loss, as well as the main forms of indirect transmission of texts such as translation, and transmission by means of fragments and excerpts. The history of reception includes research into the history of Philology and of the classical tradition (prosopography, editions of epistolary exchanges and marginalia) up until the investigation of the reception and reuse of classical models in modern literature.
